Mothers' Union

Mothers Union - with slogan

St Andrew’s has had a branch of the Mothers’ Union for over a hundred years. It now has around thirty members. It is part of the Ely Diocese Mothers’ Union, based at Bishop Woodford House in Ely.

It usually meets twice a month, usually in the Johnson Hall. The evening meeting is at 7.30 pm on most third Thursdays of the month, while afternoon meetings are generally held on fourth Thursdays at 2.15 pm.

There is a varied and well-balanced programme with speakers on a wide range of subjects. Members also support special Mother’s Union events, activities and projects in the diocese and further afield, such as the AFIA scheme (Away From It All holidays), help for women’s refuges, knitting “teddies for tragedies” and premature babies’ clothes, as well as supporting MU Baby Tents at country shows, and many more. Stapleford Mothers' Union is also an active participant in village and church events.

The monthly prayer diary is here.

The Mother’s Union is a worldwide Christian organisation within the Anglican Communion, begun in 1876 and now numbering 4 million members active in 84 countries. The Worldwide President is Sheran Harper from Guyana. The organisation is run from Mary Sumner House in Tufton Street in London. Its slogan is “Christian Care for Families". In Stapleford it lives up to this in many practical and prayerful ways.
